This will allow you to ask any other questions you may have and find out whether you’re eligible for implant dentures in Sterling. A beautiful new smile and a more pleasant life await you!
How Do Implant-Retained Dentures Work?
Implant-retained dentures are unique to any other form of tooth replacement. The procedure starts at the root level with the placement of a series of titanium dental implants in Sterling being attached to the jawbone. Over time, the fixtures fuse with the same through a process called osseointegration, which provides a sound foundation for the restoration to attach to. After the placement of the implants, bite impressions are taken and used to create a mold that will be used to fabricate a set of implant-retained dentures.
Once you’ve healed from the initial surgery, we’ll add titanium abutments to the implants that will anchor your prosthetic teeth into position. This is made possible by a series of snaps or bars on the gum side of your dentures.
Am I a Candidate for Implant-Retained Dentures?
While dental implants are highly effective at replacing missing teeth, we’ll first make sure that you’re a good candidate for the procedure, so you’ll have the best results. When you visit our office, we’ll assess the condition of your oral health to make sure you don’t need any restorative care before the implant procedure gets underway. We’ll also examine your current jawbone mass to ensure there is enough present to support dental implants.
If it’s determined that you don’t have a sufficient amount of jawbone, Dr. Ansari will discuss what the available options are with you. You can then make an educated decision about how to proceed.
The Implant-Retained Dentures Procedure
Using the images from your consultation, we’ll determine the precise placement of your implant posts. Then, to ensure a calm and comfortable experience, we’ll administer sedation or anesthesia. Thus, there’s no need to worry about having to endure a painful process.
The procedure starts with opening your gum tissue to expose the underlying bone. Then, holes are drilled for each implant that will be placed. In some cases, after the posts are attached, we can fit you with a temporary set of dentures the same day, so you don’t have to go without your teeth during the healing process. If that’s not feasible, then you’ll need to wait a few months to heal to solidify your new foundation.
Benefits of Combining Dentures & Dental Implants
While a traditional set of dentures can be effective at replacing your missing teeth, they have their limitations. For starters, they rest above the gum line and rely on dental adhesive and suction to maintain their position. Thus, they can be subject to shifting.
With the firm base provided by dental implants and their secure attachment into a set of dentures, you’re able to achieve a fully functional and aesthetic new smile. That means, with the help of your dentist in Sterling, you can once again eat many of the foods you’ve been forced to give up and enjoy the fullness that life has to offer!
