Understanding How Dental Insurance Works
It’s important to keep in mind that dental insurance is not meant to be used only when a dental emergency occurs. This makes it quite different than medical insurance, which is often used when a serious illness or injury appears. The fact is dental insurance is meant to be used regularly, ideally once every six months. Using it in this way ensures that you prevent the majority of dental disease and reduce overall costs for yourself and your family.
What Your Dental Insurance Plan Covers
While you should always look at your plan in greater detail before using it, most dental plans cover treatments in the same way. Plans are broken down into three main categories. This includes preventive care, minor restorative care, and major restorative care. They are usually covered in the following ways:
- Preventive Care – Covered at or close to 100 percent
- Minor Restorative Care – Covered between 70 and 80 percent
- Major Restorative Care – Covered at 50 percent
We Offer In-Network Savings & Welcome Out-of-Network Providers
When we talk about being in-network, it simply means that our practice has agreed to certain contractual terms provided to us by a specific insurance provider. We are in-network with many insurance companies, which means that you’re more than likely able to take advantage of the savings that come with them by being in-network. With that said, being in-network isn’t everything. We still file claims on your behalf and do our best to make sure you understand your costs prior to beginning any treatment.
