Different Types of Dentures
Dentures are removable appliances that can replace missing teeth and help restore your smile and health. If you’ve lost some or all of your natural teeth, whether from gum disease, tooth decay or injury, Dr Ansari can replace your missing teeth. Dentures not only enhance your appearance but also make it easier to eat and speak better than you could without teeth. When you lose all of your teeth, facial muscles can sag, making you look older. Dentures can help fill out the appearance of your face and profile. They can be made to closely resemble your natural teeth so that your appearance does not change much. Wearing dentures will enable you to eat healthily and look great. At Lowes Island Dentistry, there are 3 types of dentures:
- Conventional Denture: This full removable denture is made often times made for patients that have an ill-fitting denture that has worn or broken teeth. The teeth have been missing for some time and the tissues have healed. For the best fit for a conventional denture we offer the digital PALA-DIGITAL DENTURE technology. With advanced Pala Digital Dentures technology, dentures are modeled using 3D software for a perfect fit in significantly less time. Superior-quality dentures can be delivered in about seven business days. Only one patient visit is needed before final denture delivery, compared to the five or more visits previously required. Once an impression or impression scan is received, 3D renderings of the denture are created based on anatomical landmarks captured in the impression. The final denture is then crafted to uncompromising standards. An optional try-in prototype can be ordered before the final dentures are made. In addition, the 3D model generated by the Pala Digital Denture system serves as a permanent digital record that can be used if a replacement is needed.
- Immediate Dentures: This removable denture is inserted on the same day that the remaining teeth are removed. Dr Ansari will take measurements and make models of your jaw during a preliminary visit to have the immediate dentures ready to deliver on the day that she does the surgery to extract the teeth. This is all done by the same dentist so that you do not have to see a surgeon. You don’t have to be without teeth during the healing period but may need to have the denture relined or remade after your jaw has healed.
- Overdenture: Are dentures that use either implants or some remaining teeth for stability. Sometimes some of your teeth can be saved to preserve your jawbone and provide stability and support for the denture. At times 2-6 implants can be placed in the patient's jaw bone, to support an implant-overdenture to give the patient the best fit and chewing ability.
